Max’s Rosé is a tribute to former Chief Winemaker Max Schubert (1948–1975), a legend in Penfolds history. Max’s constant pursuit of excellence paved the way for those who followed, allowing the status and heritage of Penfolds to grow. Having discovered the pleasure of drinking fresh, bright Rosé on an early trip to Europe, this wine carries all the hallmarks of a well-balanced, bright young Rosé crafted with early drinking in mind.

Vineyards & Vintage Conditions
Vintage 2021 was celebrated by grape growers and winemakers across South Australia for its long, cool ripening season and a return to respectable yields.
-
Spring: Despite a dry July, soil moisture levels were close to optimal as budburst commenced. Warm September conditions ensured even budburst across the Adelaide Hills, McLaren Vale, and Padthaway, while healthy rainfall from late September through November promoted ideal canopy development and good fruit set.
-
Summer: The 2020–2021 growing season was the coolest in ten years, featuring no heatwaves and only nine days over 35°C. Timely rainfall in late January and early February maintained optimal soil moisture for veraison.
-
Harvest: Cool conditions slowed the final stages of ripening, allowing for optimal flavour development and an orderly harvest that extended into early May.
