In honour of the late Niel Joubert, 1936 – 2013. A rare bottling of the variety, more commonly used in red Bordeaux 5-part blending. Spent 36 months in a combination of older French and Hungarian 225 litre barriques. Very dark in colour, an almost black centre which forewarns you about the concentration. Ripe and generous, opulent, with dense dark fruit, black plums and prunes which handles the oaking, but becoming more meaty, gamy, with dried herbs and spicy liquorice in the flavours. Enough grip at the end to cellar but the full-bodied, fleshy fruit allows earlier drinking.
